Find Something to Come Alive About!

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
-Professor Keating (Robin Williams) in ‘Dead Poet’s Society’
Are you struggling with things lately? Maybe its your job and/or the news media about our struggling economy? Maybe its all the political wrestling and rhetoric coming out of Washington DC and being reported at a rapid pace by media types? Maybe it is just the daily grind and repeating it over and over again, continuously putting your dreams on the back burner because, “now just isn’t the time!”
Well I say its time! Go grab a clean white sheet of paper and lets get started at bringing you alive again. Here is what I want you to do…draw a line down the middle and on each side of the line write the numbers 1 through 10. Label the left side, “things I am passionate about” and the right side, “things I am good at.” Now spend an hour or so a day writing out things to fill each category. When you are completely done share it with a loved one, a coworker, a mentor, or if you have nobody to share it with call me. The objective is to align things in your life so that you are doing what you want to do, what you are passionate about, and that you are good at. The things that will bring you ALIVE and help you enjoy each day to its fullest.
As the Dead Poet’s Society quote says, “we read and write poetry because we are members of the human race…” So I challenge you now, go write and act out your life’s poetry through the things you are passionate about and that you are good at. To your success!
