Slow and Steady Gets You Ready

Legendary basketball coach John Wooden once said, “When you improve a little each day, eventually big things occur…”  This became no more clear to me than yesterday when I completed my longest run ever, 20 miles.  Approximately one year ago I started running again for the first time since high school/college days.  2 miles was a big run.  But each day, I continued to stretch that until I had built up the stamina to achieve my 20 miler yesterday.  I never looked for the “big quick improvement” but just stay focused on the small improvements one day at a time.
There is a great life lesson in there for each of us.  To stay focused in the moment in anything we want and look for and do the little things that will add up.  Why?  Because by doing so we are forming a lasting habit.  So focus on the little things today that will help you improve all areas of your life (health fitness, financial, career, relationships, personal development, community involvment, and spirituality) and as the story goes, “slow and steady will get you ready for big gains in your life!”
